Renovation
Bathroom
This project transformed an original Art Deco bathroom within a character home that already featured more modernised spaces downstairs. The brief was clear: update the outdated bathroom while staying true to the home’s Deco roots, and create a space that feels timeless, elegant, and functional.
Over time, the bathroom had become cold and impractical, no longer meeting the needs of modern living. To rework the space, we stripped the rooms interior back and rebuilt from the structure up. This process revealed uneven floor levels and misaligned walls, which we carefully re-levelled and straightened to create a solid foundation for the new design.
With the structure resolved, we fully waterproofed the bathroom and clearly defined the shower zone. We then introduced a custom tile layout across both the floors and walls. The black-and-white pattern references classic Art Deco design while still feeling fresh and refined.
A restored vintage storage unit became a key feature of the renovation. We refurbished and lacquered the piece to protect it from moisture, then adapted it to house a new classically designed ceramic vanity. This allowed the Art Deco bathroom to retain its authenticity while also meeting modern performance requirements.
Perrin & Rowe tapware was selected for its quality and traditional styling, ensuring it complemented the era of the home. To complete the space, we re-chromed an original lamp and repurposed it as a statement light above the large mirror, adding character and a strong focal point.
